Create Your Own Prompts
Say your mind is currently blank in trying to write a new journal prompt. You've been asking yourself the same questions, approaching the same subjects, writing the same answers with few new discoveries, perspectives, etc.
This is when you need to be extra creative and start creating your own prompts.
After all, perspective, personability, and pathos are all part of how you respond to other journal prompts, so why not start from those elements in creating some?
The table below illustrates a rough rundown of what can constitute a journal prompt of your creation, influenced by whatever might be occupying your mind at the present moment.
Subject |
Perspective |
Experience |
Journal
Prompt |
TV show characters |
As a TV viewer |
When you see a show “jump the “shark” |
What TV characters have stayed consistent
in personality throughout their entire run? |
Nanaimo |
As a resident |
When you visit a
local park or area |
What new Nanaimo
parks can you visit? |
It's often as simple as changing the perspective of a prompt you already know, or approaching it in terms of helping someone else.
So take a subject of interest, incorporate a perspective, opinion, or train of thought, and you can even "flip" it in the form of a question, as a means of "solving" the problem. This is especially helpful if you're currently dealing with a frustrating issue through writing.
So don't be afraid of trying it out. The more you take this approach with your areas of interest, the more you'll grow to appreciate the things you love and why you love them.
Happy Journaling!
